Bourns Expands Automotive and Industrial Product Line to Meet Next-Gen Demands

Bourns has introduced several new components aimed at enhancing performance in automotive, industrial, and renewable energy applications. These products provide cutting-edge solutions for signal isolation, high-power current sensing, and surge protection, catering to the needs of emerging technologies.

SM91872AL BMS signal transformer.

Among the key releases is the SM91872AL, an AEC-Q200 compliant signal transformer tailored for electric vehicle (EV) battery management systems (BMS). With its automated over-molding construction, the SM91872AL delivers cost-effective and reliable signal isolation, handling up to 1000 V working voltage and 4000 VAC isolation for demanding automotive environments.

For industrial current sensing applications, Bourns has expanded its line of Riedon Industrial Shunt Resistors. Six new models (RSN, RS, RSH, RSI, RSJ, and RSW) offer enhanced current handling from 1 A to 6000 A with low resistance values to minimize power loss. These shunt resistors ensure precision in current measurement with tolerances as low as 0.25%, making them ideal for use in BMS, solar inverters, and other high-power systems.

Bourns also introduced the PTVS1-240C-M, the industry’s first 240 V/1 kA bidirectional Power Transient Voltage Suppressor (PTVS) available in surface-mount packaging. Designed for high energy transients, such as those caused by lightning strikes or power surges, the PTVS diode delivers superior surge protection for industrial power and battery energy storage systems, while offering high power density and a reduced PCB footprint.

PTVS diodes protect equipment from AC/DC power line surges.

These product innovations position Bourns as a leading provider of high-performance solutions for next-generation automotive, industrial, and renewable energy applications, ensuring reliability and efficiency across critical systems.
