Infineon Unveils EZ-USB FX20: A High-Bandwidth USB Peripheral Controller

Infineon Technologies has launched the EZ-USB FX20, a groundbreaking USB 3.2 peripheral controller designed to meet the demands of high-speed data applications, including AI and image processing. This innovative controller offers a significant leap in performance, with data rates reaching up to 20 Gbps—six times the bandwidth of previous models.

The EZ-USB FX20 is engineered to facilitate the development of USB-connected devices that require substantial data throughput. With its compact 10 mm x 10 mm BGA package, the controller is ideal for small form factor designs, allowing manufacturers to create advanced devices without compromising on performance. Notably, the EZ-USB FX20 supports USB-C connectivity, streamlining design processes by eliminating the need for a high-speed signal multiplexer.

Equipped with high-speed LVDS (low-voltage differential signaling) interfaces, the FX20 can handle multiple data streams effectively. Each LVDS interface features 16 receive channels, enabling combined data rates that support the most demanding applications in today's market. A dedicated DMA controller ensures efficient data transfer from the peripheral system processor to USB ports, where data is configured according to USB 3.2 protocols for seamless communication with host devices.

The controller integrates dual Arm Cortex M4F and MO+ controllers, along with 512 KB of Flash and 128 KB of SRAM, ensuring robust performance for real-time data processing. With an additional 1 MB of SRAM allocated for the data communication subsystem, the FX20 provides ample buffering capacity for high-bandwidth applications.

As the demand for high-speed data transfer in peripherals continues to grow, the EZ-USB FX20 is set to redefine performance benchmarks. Currently sampling, the EZ-USB FX20 is expected to reach full production by Q1 of 2025, offering a powerful solution for next-generation USB devices.
