Institution: SK Hynix's DRAM revenue share reached 36% in the first quarter, surpassing Samsung for the first time

According to the memory research data from market research firm Counterpoint Research, in the first quarter of 2025, SK Hynix surpassed Samsung Electronics for the first time, ranking first in global DRAM revenue with a 36% share. Samsung ranks second with a 34% share, while Micron ranks third with a 25% share.

Senior analyst Jeongku Choi said, "This is a milestone for SK Hynix, as the company has successfully pushed its DRAM products into a market with sustained high demand for HBM memory. The manufacturing of dedicated HBM DRAM chips has always been extremely challenging, and companies that seized the opportunity early on have already received substantial returns

Counterpoint Research predicts that the DRAM market will exhibit similar growth in segmented markets and supplier share in the second quarter of 2025.

Currently, the world is paying attention to the impact of tariffs, so the question is: how will the HBM DRAM market develop Research Director MS Hwang pointed out. At least in the short term, due to the strong demand for artificial intelligence, this field is unlikely to be affected by any trade shocks. More importantly, HBM's final product is an artificial intelligence server, and the definition of an artificial intelligence server itself is not limited by borders

In the long run, Counterpoint believes that the risk of growth in the HBM DRAM market stems from structural challenges brought about by trade shocks, which may trigger economic recession or even depression.
