Fabless communication and computing chip company Marvel demonstrated PCIe Gen7 connectivity using 3nm chips.
Compared to PCI Gen6, the data transfer speed of each channel in the Marvel PCIe Gen7 SerDes can reach up to 128GT/s, doubling the data transfer speed. Therefore, it is suitable for accelerating server platforms, general-purpose servers, CXL (Compute Express Link) systems, and decomposing computing structures within infrastructure.
Compared to PCIe Gen5 based on NRZ modulation, PCIe Gen6 and PCIe Gen7 require PAM4 modulation. Marvel is expanding its PAM4 based fiber and copper interconnect product portfolio from Ethernet and InfiniBand to copper and fiber PCIe, CXL, and proprietary computing architecture links.
Venu Balasubramonian, Vice President of Product Marketing for Marvel's Interconnect Business, stated, "Artificial intelligence workloads are driving the development of server interconnection, and our PCIe Gen7 technology is designed to meet the performance and scalability requirements of the next generation of AI data centers.
