NVIDIA has dominated the GPU market for 20 years, but there will still be no strong competitors in the coming years

Should Nvidia be called an artificial intelligence (AI) company or a consumer GPU company? The latest compilation by 3DCenter shows that Nvidia has dominated the independent GPU market for the past two decades, with AMD having no advantage.

Before the emergence of AI, Nvidia focused on consumer and professional grade GPUs; It still maintains the same position, but the situation is different, AMD's share has hit a new low.

Starting from the GeForce FX series desktop GPU, NVIDIA has now become a platform that not only dominates the desktop GPU market, but has also been proven to be a huge competitor to companies such as AMD. According to 3DCenter data, Nvidia has been leading the GPU market share since 2002 and this trend is still ongoing.

The competition was indeed fierce in the first few years, when AMD launched the Radeon X100 series. Thanks to the debut of technologies such as HDR rendering and CrossFire support, the market share gap was successfully narrowed. However, since then, it has been completely dominated by NVIDIA. Even now, despite placing dGPU in a secondary position, the company still dominates in terms of consumer adoption.

The key moment for Nvidia and its huge market share was during the cryptocurrency mining frenzy, when its market share soared to 80%. Due to the high demand for GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs from miners at that time, Nvidia fully utilized this, while AMD failed to become the focus. Since then, Nvidia's market dominance has been on the rise, and from the current situation, this trend seems to have not been broken yet.

Nvidia's only competitor AMD has now returned to the mainstream market, revitalizing its Radeon gaming graphics business, and Nvidia is about to launch a new generation of audiophile gaming solutions. Even Intel will primarily focus on the mainstream market, while Nvidia will not have strong competitors in the coming years.

Whether in the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, or consumer grade GPUs, Nvidia's presence is crucial for the development of various market segments, occupying a leading position in the computing market.
