The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) recently announced that global semiconductor sales in the third quarter of 2024 were $166 billion, an increase of 23.2% from the third quarter of 2023 and 10.7% from the second quarter of 2024. Among them, the global sales in September 2024 were 55.3 billion US dollars, an increase of 4.1% from the total of 53.1 billion US dollars in August 2024.
SIA President and CEO John Neuffer said, "In the third quarter of 2024, the global semiconductor market continued to grow, with quarterly sales increasing at the highest rate since 2016. September sales reached the highest monthly total in market history, driven by a year-on-year growth of 46.3% in the Americas region
From a regional perspective, the regions where sales increased year-on-year in September included the Americas (46.3%), China (22.9%), Asia Pacific excluding China and Japan (18.4%), and Japan (7.7%), but there was a slight decrease in Europe (-8.2%). The regions with a month on month increase in sales in September include Japan (5.3%), Asia Pacific excluding China and Japan (4.5%), the Americas (4.1%), Europe (4.0%), and China (3.6%).
Previously, SIA released a report stating that by 2023, the global sales of the semiconductor industry will reach $527 billion, with nearly 1 trillion semiconductor products sold worldwide, equivalent to over 100 chips per person worldwide. With the end of the cyclical downturn in the market and the surge in demand for semiconductors, world semiconductor trade statistics predict that sales will increase to over $600 billion in 2024.
