Tower Semiconductor's latest silicon optical platform has been put into mass production with 1.6Tbps optical transceiver

Migdal Emek, Israel, November 19, 2024- Tower Semiconductor (NASDAQ/TASE: TSEM), a high-value analog semiconductor solution foundry, recently announced that multiple customers' 1.6 Tbps silicon photonics products have entered mass production on its latest SiPho platform. The platform has doubled the data transmission rate compared to the current 800 Gpbs product by adopting multiple innovative technologies. These innovative technologies are implemented through close collaboration between Tower and multiple clients who have designed groundbreaking 1.6Tbps products on this enhanced platform and have begun ordering bulk production capacity.

Compared with the current data transmission rate of only 100Gbps per channel and a total of 800Gbps, the latest technology supports a data transmission rate of 200Gbps per channel, and eight channels are built in parallel, achieving a total transceiver throughput of 1.6Tbps.

Dr. Jack Xu, Vice President of Transceiver Business at Coherent, said, "We have recently released a 1.6Tbps optical transceiver based on silicon optical technology, and are also accelerating the launch of an 8x100G transceiver based on silicon optical technology. We are pleased to have a strong partner like Tower, who not only helps us bring advanced technology to the market, but also has rich experience in mass production of silicon photonics products, benefiting our joint customers

Tower's high-capacity silicon optical platform can provide various key functions required for high data transmission rate optical transceivers, including high bandwidth optical modulators and low loss edge coupling from lasers to fibers. These functions are crucial in the development of high-speed data communication components, playing a key role in increasing transmission rates from 100Gbs per channel to 200Gbs and above.

Dr. Marco Racanelli, President of Tower Semiconductor, said, "We are thrilled to announce this achievement to the industry and are pleased to see well-known companies in the high-speed data communication field such as Coherent begin adopting this technology. Tower will continue to be committed to providing advanced technology solutions to help our customers shape and drive their markets.
